Full Title: Autography II
Type of Work: experimental film
Year: 2010
Direction / Concept: Sabin Borș
Editing: Sabin Borș
Music: Alex Smoke - Jah Future, used here for non-commercial purposes.

__________

Autography II is an experimental movie that relates to the anti-narrative and fragmented perception and projection of ourselves. The main element of the video is a symbol for threat, the unexpected, that which we cannot overcome but by delivering ourselves to the immediate experience. With past being a continuous background that reminds us of our frailty, the perfect aspect of the future can only be imagined, yet it can never be attained as such. This is why the perfect aspect of the future can only be composed of the anti-narrative, non-lineal fragments that bind our past experiences together.

Autography I is an experimental movie that relates to the anti-narrative and fragmented perception of both our memories and introspections, and future projections of ourselves. Following the somehow unexpected break-up of two friends, to whom this short visual is dedicated, the movie tries to shift the accent away from a lineal interpretation of the past, while nevertheless preserving its continuous aspect. While past is continuous as an inner state of experience, introspections and our relation with the past are always distorted and fragmentarized, the same as with the future projections of how we might overcome the burdens of the past.

Full Title: Tristes Dystropiques
Type of Work: experimental film
Year: 2010
Direction / Concept: Sabin Borș
Editing: Sabin Borș
Music: Noisia – Thursday (Vision Recordings, 2010), used here for non-commercial purposes.

__________

Tristes Dystropiques is a short movie/visual approach displayed as a dystopic scenery.

Tristes Tropiques refers to the memoirs of Claude Levi-Strauss, a travelogue infused with philosophical reflections.

Dystopia (eng.) / Dystopie (fr.) refers to anti-utopias, to visions of a futuristic society, in which society has degraded into a repressive, controlled state, a totalitarian form of government, the lack of individual freedoms and expressions, characterized by mass poverty for its inhabitants (Wiki).

Dystropiques refer here to both a dystopic place and its tropic or tropological expression, a certain use of images relating to a certain movement, a tendency to move towards a given/set direction, a tropism.

Tristes Dystropiques is a quick glance at certain residual constructions in the urban profile of Romanian socialist and post-socialist districts. Tristes means sad, sorrowful, a glum prospect, the bleak landscape of our cities…

This short movie/experimental approach has been screened at the Assemblages II Festival (16-18 July 2010).

Full Title: Anti-Code
Type of Work: visual
Year: 2010
Direction / Concept: Sabin Borș
Editing: Sabin Borș
Music: Proket - Norilsk (Offkey Recordings, 2009), used here for non-commercial purposes.

__________

Anti-Code is the first visual I ever made. It is a short visual about the way digital elements encode the images, and the way they archive all our memories. It is a reversed scenario of how an image is digitally encrypted. In making this short visual, I started from a single image, because I wanted to emphasize the way our memories live of single, fragmented images, pieces that we try to put together. At the same time, it tries to show the way an image is made of many other images, the way we cannot access our memories but by putting together small pieces that constitute our memory as a whole. Not lastly, this short visual is dedicated to someone very dear, for times when words need to be silent.

This short visual has been screened at the Assemblages II Festival (16-18 July 2010).
